Things Are Always Improving

Friday, May 18th, 2007

Blern is still in beta, meaning that the site is still evolving in one way or another. While many of these changes occur in the background–things that improve our matching algorithms or site performance–others provide new features and capabilities to the site. I thought I’d give some insight into what kind of things are currently “in the works” that you can look forward to. As always, your feedback is important here and will influence when and in what form these features come. So contact us or leave a comment on the blog here.

Some upcoming features:

  • How would you like Blern to learn what you like based on sites that you’ve Dugg? Or sites that you’ve given an up-arrow to on Reddit? Thumbs-upped on Stumbleupon? Or maybe even anything you tag with on del.icio.us? Or for the extreme, every site you visit that’s tracked by Attentv?
  • Do you share links you like with your friends? Why not give them an RSS feed of all the pages you’ve liked on Blern? Let them see all the articles you’ve read on Blern, or maybe you’d like to hand-pick pages or even whole feeds to mix up into a single feed you publish for yourself and your friends?
  • See what blog articles are generating discussion, based on the number of comments and trackbacks they’re receiving.
  • Social networking is all the rage, so maybe you’d like to find other users of Blern who have similar likes and dislikes as you?
  • Get an alert, either via email or IM when a new article appears on Blern that is strongly recommended for you.
  • Recommendations for feeds based on individual articles that you’ve already liked.
  • Vote to agree or disagree with controversial article. Perhaps this will lead to finding other Blern users who have similar positions to you.
  • Rate the quality of an article and give you the ability to filter articles that only meet high quality ratings.
  • Get recommendations for podcasts and videos.
